11. General Gooschin former Colonel of the Imperial General
Staff has just arrived on the S.S. Georgy. He was in trouble
in Shanghai at the beginning of the 1925 strike when he formed
an organisation for supplying the strikers with arms. I do not
know yet what official position he will hold in Canton.
12. The head of the Navy is now Mr Gray (Russian) a former
Imperial naval officer. He has two Russian officers under him
who wear the Chinese naval officer's uniform.
13. I have arranged to have sent to me photographs of Mr.
Borodin and General Gallent. Borodin is not the same as the
Borodin mentioned in recent press reports. He is at present
in Hankow.
14. There is no trace of Karakhan in Canton.
15. The Soviet steamer Georgy left Canton for Vladivostock three days ago. The Captain is Mr N.V. Ushakoff a former naval officer. I spoke with him but gathered no useful information. 16. There is no special propaganda department in Canton. Propaganda is controlled by the "Torg Predsta (Trades' Representative Departament). The trade between Canton and Russians is very small).
17. The Canton Gazette has two Russian Jews as correspondents
one of them is a woman.
18. The International Workers Delegation consists of four members, one each from France, America, England and Russia. The Russian has just arrived from Vladivostock. They held a meeting on 23rd February, 1927, on the Sun Yat Sen University Campus. Over 10,000 people were present but everything was orderly. Tau Mann is the oldest member. He represents England. The Motive of the meeting was to discuss the labour situation in China but all the speeches were of a distinctly anti-imperialis- tic nature and were directly levelled against the British.
19.
All the foreign delegates are housed at the Oriental Hotel.
